The competition, designed to support groundbreaking advancements in microbial delivery, attracted a range of forward-thinking solutions, but Fafabiotic’s innovative approach to probiotic skincare stood out.

Fafabiotic specializes in live, active microbial skincare, offering a unique two-chamber system that ensures probiotics remain potent until activation. The inspiration for this innovation stemmed from founder and CEO Farzaneh Rezaei’s deep expertise in microbial formulation and a personal mission to improve skincare solutions.
“The more I explored the beauty industry, the more I realized how many products contribute to skin health issues rather than solving them,” Rezaei says. “When my own children struggled with eczema and acne, I knew there had to be a better way—one rooted in the power of probiotics. By applying my knowledge of microbial fermentation, I developed a system that ensures live probiotics remain effective until the moment they’re applied.”
The winning entry proposed optimizations to enhance usability, including a more user-friendly cap design and an integrated activation system that eliminates the need for additional bottles. One of the key challenges Fafabiotic sought to overcome was ensuring simplicity for consumers.
“Incorporating live probiotics into skincare isn’t just about formulation—it’s about making sure they survive from manufacturing to application and recall physiological properties once used, which all have been carefully incorporated into our current products,” Rezaei explains. “Our products require assembly, like a science project kit. To continuously improve our customers’ experience, my goal is to make this kit easier to assemble. Through our collaboration with
3BarBio, we’ll be able to refine our ‘science kit’ for better ease of use for consumers without compromising the stability of our probiotics. Our goal is to make activation seamless, so users get the full benefit of living microbes without complicated steps.”
As the challenge winner, Fafabiotic will collaborate with 3BarBio to further refine and optimize their delivery system, ensuring a seamless path from concept to commercialization.
